After Frank Sinatra died in 1998, Bobby Caldwell made Come Rain or Come Shine as his tribute. Recorded in November 1998, it uses the original arrangements that Sinatra’s great arrangers, among them Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones, wrote for the songs.
Bobby co-produced the album with Henry “Grumpo” Marx, his longtime writing partner. Pianist Randy Waldman contributed arrangements of his own.
The album includes one new song written in the classic style, “April Moon,” which reviewers singled out. The US edition adds “Come to Me” as a bonus track.
The record led directly to the stage. From October 1999 to January 2000, Bobby played Sinatra in The Rat Pack Is Back in Las Vegas. AllMusic’s Michael G. Nastos called the album “perfect for the swing revivalist times.”
The album reached No. 8 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart.
